I was tagged by Steven at Get Your Blog On! for this fun food meme…
These are the rules:
1. Link to the name of the person who tagged you.
2. Include the state and country you’re in.
3. List your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location (locally).
4. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they’ve been tagged.
Being from the NOLA, the city voted the best place to live for eating out, it’s kind of sad that I have never been to some of the “Great” restaurants of the city… Antoine’s, Arnaud’s, Gallatoire’s, or Commander’s Palace. I know, I know, I should, but just haven’t. With three kids it’s hard to go ANYWHERE!! Anyway, here are my five favorite places to eat…
- Sun Ray Grill : This is a local chain with four locations around the NOLA area. My favorite place to stop for a quick bite to go, or to order out. My absolute faves on the menu are the Bangkok Chicken Roll and their Thai BBQ Chicken is to die for.
- Kim Son: Advertised as Chinese-Vietnamese, they have those daily lunch specials that you can get at most Chinese restaurants. But, if I wanted those average specials I could go anywhere. The reason Kim Son is on my cell phone speed dial is the Singapore Noodles…. yummy! Here’s a local critic‘s take on the hole in the wall.
- Emeril’s Delmonico: Wow! We went to Delmonico for one of our anniversaries and it was amazing. Of course, it helped that my dear hubby worked with the maitre’d, but we got one of the best tables in the restaurant and they comped us a fantastic appetizer of oysters. I had the Redfish Amendine for dinner while hubby had the Duck Breast. What a fantastic dinner that was!
- Rocky’s Pizza Joint: Talk about some good pizza! Rocky’s makes some of the best pizza in town with a great ambience. They even have kid’s day where kids can make their own pizza. The muffaletta pizza is to die for. Here’s The Unknown Critic’s review.
- And of course, being a mom and a junk food junkie I have to include one of my favorite local fast food places, Raising Cane’s: They are locally grown in Baton Rouge and make nothing but chicken strips. But, the chicken strips aren’t what keep you coming back. It’s the Texas Toast, the homemade Lemonade, and that fantastic Cane’s Sauce. I just wish I knew what was in that sauce!
I tag: Kailani in Hawaii, Michelle in London, Lisa in Orlando, Lisa in South Dakota, and although it’s supposed to be someone from a different place… Sarah in New Orleans; because she’s worked in the fine dining field and I want some recommendations of places to eat at home 🙂
Excellent! Oh, how I miss the food in NOLA. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been there. I don’t think I made it to any that you mentioned, but I have this vague recollection of a drink called a hurricane or something like that. Can we say “blotto!”
Steven: Yeah, the hurricane will definitely wipe you out 🙂 The best bar on Bourbon hands down is The Oz though… they have Drag Bingo and it’s the best time.
Well, I’ll give you a major clue about where my new job for the summer is, and that is that it’s next door to Rocky’s. 😛
I think Delmonico is the only Emeril’s I haven’t been to yet, and I totally want to go.
Hmmm, Semolina’s or Byblos?? I haven’t been to Byblos because I’m not much on Mediterranean but I love Semolina’s Shrimp Roban.
This is a tough one! We don’t have a varied palate here in South Dakota. I’ll let ya know when I have it up.
Yay! I finally got to your site! I had some problems this morning loading your site; my computer kept locking up!
Gotta love those hole-in-the-wall Oriental places. My friend and her hubby own one in a strip mall (which they also own), and their food is the best. They serve Chinese and Mexican food – yum!
Lisa: That’s why I figured I’d see what you guys had 🙂 Take your time…
Desert Songbird: Yay! Glad you found me. Yeah, the hole in the wall places are usually the best!
Wow… Those sound really good. I’ve never even been anywhere near NOLA… but maybe someday. It’s true about the kids. We don’t really eat out much. And we only have one.
Marilyn: You must come!! NOLA’s got it all… food, music, history, architecture… you name it it’s here.
Speaking of hole in the wall, there is also an amazing Korean place in Metairie that I always forget where it is. Because it’s somewhere totally random.
But I am jealous of you because on the West Bank there are still Taco Bells post-Katrina…. so I can’t really pretend to be a food snob. I will always pull over for a Taco Bell.
Sarah: Yep, I can’t resist the turn into Taco Bell either. Of course, since there are so few now, the line is always so long that I usually give up. If the line is short that’s my sign that I obviously “needed” an Encharito. 🙂
Oh NO. I will try very hard to come up with 5 places I’ve eaten at, fast food aside. Does it count if I really WANT to eat out someplace but haven’t yet? No? I didn’t think so. OK, I always like a challenge.. 🙂 (I am such an idiot, I only JUST NOW realised NOLA stood for New Orleans, Louisiana. IDIOT, IDIOT, IDIOT 🙂 )
Yay, can’t wait to hear what they have “across the pond”… and don’t feel bad, most people don’t realize what NOLA stands for 🙂
This is the second time I got tagged with this one but haven’t done it yet. I better get on it. Thanks for thinking of me!
