Blog Blast For Peace ~ June 4, 2008
Mimi began this wonderful movement almost two years ago. It has become a phenomenon, awing me from the onset. Here are Mimi’s thoughts on BlogBlast for Peace:
Peace Globes did not begin as a meme. But it began to behave like a meme. Blog to blog to blog. Like a fog. We didn’t use the word “tag” ….but that’s what we did when we invited others in our blogrolls to participate. The fact that you did so without the obligatory tag is proof that the concept is powerful.
It’s a fact that the fastest and most effective way to spiral an idea out of control in the blogosphere is via a meme. I should know! The 700+ bloggers who participated in past launches (and that truly is the tip of The-Iceberg-I-Never-Found) knows what it means to them. It’s about unity. We have that in spades. It’s about activism, awareness, crossing political lines, making a statement and sharing ideas. We’ve done that. We have the vision as a core group of bloggers for peace; but we do not – yet – have the power in numbers behind the message.
BlogBlast For Peace Meme ~ Join The Revolution
Here are the rules and the story. Copy this into a post, ADD YOUR NAME to the bottom of the tag list and tag as many people as you’d like.
The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe – Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) – branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was positively inspiring to watch. And it began to happen all over the world – from Singapore to China to Afghanistan to Brooklyn.
It was simple. And powerful.
In less than two weeks bloggers from all
across the globe will blog for peace.
We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day.
Won’t you join us?

Memeing the Movement.
In continuing with the peace movement…
In my classroom I do a Quote of the Day; where I write a quote and my students write what the quote means to them. Over the last twelve weeks of school I have included several peace quotes. These are four and their responses– enjoy!
From Room 8
Our interpretations in our 4th grade classroom of some famous peace quotes:
Nothing will bring you peace but yourself.
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
I think it means that peace is in my body.
It means your self can bring you peace.
I think it’s about bringing yourself peace. Like when you go home and sit in the tub- that you bring peace to yourself.
You can’t let anyone give you peace. You give yourself peace.
You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.
You cannot shake hands if they are balled up because you can’t shake with a fist.
You cannot shake hands if you are about to fight.
You cannot shake hands with a fist. I feel like that too because you can’t shake a fist. If you try to shake a fist you can’t do it.
You can’t separate peace from freedom because no one can be at peace unless he has freedom.
~ Malcolm X
If you are not nice and the next day you want to be nice you will not get peace.
I think it means that you can’t have freedom without peace.
I think it means that you have to have freedom before you can have peace.
If you are mean, you can’t get freedom or peace.
You can’t separate freedom from peace, first you have to have freedom before you have peace.
You can’t break peace from freedom.
A man must have been a good man that people must have never had freedom.
All we are saying is give peace a chance.
Peace is good for life it would be very good but give it a try. Give peace a try.
Don’t do anything to change the peace.
Have peace and take a chance. That’s why you need peace.
Give peace a chance. You might like it.
It means that you can give peace a chance to try it.
In continuing with the Peace theme this week…
My Thirteen Favorite Peace Quotes
THE PURPOSE BEHIND THE THURSDAY THIRTEEN:
The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. What do you do? Write Thirteen things about yourself, summarize your week in one entry, make it easy for other bloggers to get to know you on a weekly basis. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well!
Most people are disappointed when they get a t-shirt… I’m thrilled by mine Thanks Mimi! I’ll be flying my globe proudly on November 7th. Find out how to participate in Blog Blast for Peace at Mimi‘s and maybe get your own lovely tee!
Since you can’t “see” Mimi’s lovely slideshow per se… here are my two contributions. (Psst! Can you tell I don’t have my Paintshop anymore and did it with Paint?)
