Thursday Thirteen #9- Why Being At a Conference Isn’t So Great… Wednesday, Nov 29 2006
School and Technology and Thursday Thirteen and Travel 9:13 pm

- Not sleeping in your own bed, with your own pillow, with your own kitty curled up in the crook of your arms.
- Being alone at a Tech conference, does that just spell out L-O-S-E-R???
- It’s in downtown Baton Rouge, can you say HIP and HAPPENING?
- My toilet got clogged as soon as I got here and the button to call the front desk and housekeeping didn’t work.
- The conference runs from 7-5, that’s my normal work hours, isn’t it supposed to be shorter?
- I don’t get to kiss my kids goodnight or even yell at them for being too loud.
- I don’t get to kiss my husband or shove him when he snores.
- I don’t get to get a wet nose kiss from the dog or shush him when he barks at 6am.
- I don’t get to play with the kitten.
- (and a few good points) I’ll finally learn how to podcast with my students.
- I’ll get info on gaggle.net so my kids can safely email and blog.
- My hotel is right on the river and next to the beautiful Old Capital Building. (of course I didn’t bring my camera)
- I only have to “walk” to work… minus the 2 hour drive here today and 2 hour drive back home on Friday.

If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well!

Aw but I love sleeping in hotels
What I really miss when I’m away is my pillow!
Great list. Mine are up now.

Awww. Sounds like this conference has you down. Sorry about that!
Come visit my TT. It ought to cheer you up (it certainly cheered me as I was writing it).

I don’t like sleeping away from my own bed and personal foot warmer either.

Doesn’t sound like a lot of fun, no.
Hopefully it’l be over soon and you’ll be back home!
I’m one of those who loves sleeping in a hotel room though — I think it’s because of the heavy drapes that can block out all light.
Happy TT!

A bed to yourself in a hotel, no washing-up, no bathroom cleaning … I could cope for a week
November 29, 2006 at 11:59 pm
I would miss my bed and doggie! I have a meeting for the next two days and it’s longer than the normal work day. Something is wrong with that!! Happy TT!

With ya on #9, I miss my cats when I travel and I have two weeks in Montgomery, AL from the 12th to 23rd in December!

My husband says traveling for work is no fun.

I guess since I’m constantly on layovers, I’ve gotten used to sleeping in hotel rooms. I actually learned to enjoy the quiet time.

The husband just got back yesterday and loved having his (side of the) bed back! only a couple of days and you are done. Happy TT!

It doesn’t sound like a nice time, no…but it makes a nice TT!

When you get home, drop in and I’ll explain ShapeShifter to you (and no, your kids won’t think you’re out of touch for not knowing who they are — in fact, you’re ahead of the curve on this one!)

there’s no place like home.

It’s usually nice for a little break, but otherwise it’s pretty tough. That is LONG hours too, wowie. Hope it goes well, we’ll miss you!

I hate traveling for work too. Miss all my furballs and my routine. *hugs*
Happy TT!

I hope you at least get a lot of good stuff out of your conference to make it a least a little bit worth being away from your kids (I turned a 4 day one down this past summer so I wouldn’t be away from the family - it was too hard to leave the six month old, the 12 year old on the other hand…
)
My 13 is up for your perusal.

But was it quiet for a little while?
November 30, 2006 at 8:20 pm
Yeah, there are good and bad things about being away. On the positive side, no one walk across your head at 3 am. But on the down side, there’s no one small and furry to comfort you and keep you company.

I haven’t traveled on business for quite some time. Mr. Bird took a bus load of HS Cheerleaders for a competition overnight recently and he didn’t like it one bit! He called me almost every hour. I had hoped to travel with him (he’s the school bus driver) to stay with him, but circumstances wouldn’t allow it.
We do, however, get to go for an overnighter without kids this weekend.
Have a safe trip back and have a great weekend!

I hate being alone at a conference. There’s no one to make fun of the speaker with. There’s no one to pass notes to. And who do you eat with?!
Although learning how to use technology would make up for those things, I think!!
Thanks for the comment on my list!
